Fullscreen Video Playback, Jaunty 9.04, Xorg

If you’re having issues with fullscreen video playback, this may help. The issues may range from hard lock’s and crashes to poor performance and flickering. The flickering issues may not go away with this tweak, but performance should be better and crashes should stop.

For starters, GStreamer should be installed. There is two ways to access the dialog we are looking for. System > Preferences > Multimedia Systems Selector. If this is not present, you will need to edit your menu and add it. A quicker method is simply typing gstreamer-properties &disown in terminal.

Once you have the dialog open, click the Video tab. Under Default Output, the Plugin selection should say Autodetect unless you have changed it. Change this to X Window System (No Xv).

This should fix fullscreen playback issues mentioned previously. It did for me atleast with fglrx ati drivers.
